The culture for me is
everything in itself, what surrounds us, what happens to us day by day, with
everything that we interact and our thoughts and beliefs that help us to carry
out the activities that distinguish us from others. The typical things that we
do everyday in our city. In my culture the food is awesome, Mexico has one of
the best foods around the world, we usually eat tacos and food with tortillas,
rice, beans, etc. those meals distinguish us from another countries.
About the dress in my country I think that we
usually get dressed not so covered like Saudi Arabia, we dress so typical with
shoes, pants and shirt. I think that we are very happy about our culture and
our country.
Our buildings identified our culture so much.
We have many buildings so different to other countries, we usually do buildings
with cement, gravel and sand and in other countries like USA, their culture is
to do prefabricated buildings with everything armed with wood. Our buildings
are more resistant and it looks better because each house is different, and in
other countries the houses looks similar.
The people from my country are very partiers,
when we hang out, we usually see people walking on the street and at the night
we see many people at the club, in restaurants, etc. usually every weekend and
every holiday we hang out with family or friends, I live in an apartment and
before the weekend, I listened music and noise very loud and I see many people
drinking all night. I think that we are very funny and good people that help
others and we don’t have a monotonous life.
Another thing that identified us is our
greeting, which is very simple to others around the world; we only give a kiss
on the cheek to women and men we shake hands.
In every part of my country we welcomed very well
the visitors, I know that because I have seen how we treat exchange students
and the foreigners at beach hotels. We like to make friends from other parts of
the world.
I don’t know about the norms around weddings, births and deaths, in case about weddings and births I only know that are like holidays and weekends we only enjoy the night and wishes all the best for the celebrated person, and for the deaths we are used to make a wake of respect for the deceased and a mass the next day.
The hierarchy in Mexico is too important because it
happens everywhere, it happens in jobs, in politics, in the home, in the
family, in school, etc. We have always lived in a hierarchical system and this
is how we have been taught since childhood and to respect our superiors.
Sadly at work and as well as in daily life,
gender roles are very discriminated against towards women, they do not take on
the same importance as men, when in reality we are all equal before the law,
although at present it has changed a lot and each person has been taken into
account in important decisions and tolerance and justice have been strengthened.
The people in my country are very lazy about obligations, we liked to
get much money and work less, I usually have some problems with some people for
their way of being, on more than one occasion it has happened to me
to meet with a person on a schedule and wait more than the account in which the
person arrives, this is because we are used to perform our obligations very
slowly if it is not about our own benefit.
But we are kindly so weird depending on the
person we are dealing with, when we deal with elderly persons we are so
respectful, I think that we are very united towards support for the elderly and
children, we are
very tolerant and everywhere you go there are always some parking for them or
things that help them a lot, not only elderly we also show respect for pregnant
and children.
In my conclusion we have a culture in our country very respectful and great in most cases, we are united when there is a problem and we are very happy and do things to help others, I think that we must improve in some aspects but they are very few, I love my country and my culture, we are a great group of good people with abilities that can help us to be better every day and get our goals.
MY ICEBERG MODEL OF CULTURE

UNSPOKEN
RULES:
In this phase starts the deep culture, the
culture of our behavior, our psychology and our motivation system that we
imagine and where we start our process to do an activity with benefits to us
and others. Things that not get talked about and we thought every day.
RELATIONSHIPS TO ANIMALS - LEADERSHIP - SOCIAL
INTERACTION - FRIENDSHIPS - ADOLESCENCE - CONCEPT OF PAST AND FUTURE -
PROBLEM-SOLVING ROLES IN RELATION TO AGE, SEX, CLASS, ETC.
Example:
“Mexico I believe in you”
In determining the behaviors and values of a
culture, how can we avoid stereotyping?
We can avoid all of that if we have a mature
and intelligent mental, we need to know that the people doesn’t know all about
us and when they visit our culture they will understand all the history and all
about us.
Would you feel comfortable speaking for your
entire culture? As we start a
cross-cultural dialogue – who must be present?
Yes, I would feel very comfortable and proud of
my culture because for me is a nice and one of the best and interesting culture
around the world.
Is it possible to truly understand a culture
outside of your own? Why or why not?
Yes it is possible because personally I respect
other people and their traditions and cultures I know that around the world
there are many beautiful and interesting cultures to know.
